Leonie Sinclair

BSc(Psych), Dip.Ed, Grad. Dip. Psych, M.Gestalt Therapy

Psychologist

Registered: Perth, Western Australia
13 Alvan Street, Mt Lawley, 6050

Leonie is a registered psychologist who has a Master's degree in Gestalt therapy. She has worked in schools, hospitals and in private practice for more than 25 years. She specialises in working with people struggling within the family or relationships. She offers counselling to people presenting with issues of anxiety, depression, loss and grief, trauma recovery, and life stage transitions such as divorce/separation, and menopause. She has a special interest in sexuality, and offers support to gay/lesbian couples and same sex attracted people. She honours the importance of a safe and respectful therapeutic relationship.

Leonie worked as a psychologist in Melbourne for more than 25 years. She moved to Perth in 2008 and has established a private practice here. She has a broad range of professional experience, having worked as an educational psychologist in schools and as a psychotherapist in private practice. Since completing her Gestalt training she has shifted her focus from consulting and assessment to a greater interest in therapy, and relationship counselling. She has a special interest in working with people undergoing transitions from one life stage to another: from adolescence to adulthood; single life to being in a couple, and vice versa; mid-life crises; and menopause, to name common transitions with which people struggle. She offers counselling to same-sex attracted adolescents and adults. She is interested in the challenges of fulfilling sexual expression within relationships, including supporting women through the changes of menopause.

Leonie has worked successfully in both short term counselling and long term psychotherapy. She believes that significant change can occur with short interventions, but that deeper psychological exploration impacts on general well being and long term health. Establishing a respectful and safe relationship is an important foundation of her work. She approaches therapy from a heart-centred perspective.

Leonie has special skills in critical incident debriefing and grief counselling. She has provided counselling to people with severe physical and intellectual disabilities, and to nurses and teachers in their work place.
